Wakering 50’s lose to Norwich after extra time in the National Cup

Wakering’s cup run came to an end at Norwich when they lost 6-3 after extra time. Norwich went 2-0 up early on but were then well contained by excellent defending from Paul Pinch and Simon Dixon allowing Wakering’s attacking players to press the Norwich defence hard which led to Dave Willis reducing the deficit to 2-1 with a well taken free kick just before a half time.

Norwich scored a third goal early into the second half to go 3-1 up but Wakering’s fighting spirit saw them level the match at 3-3 after strikes by Kevin Bantin and Paul Tregent. Norwich were lucky to hold until full time with Wakering going close several times. Late into the game Bantin took a pass on the turn firing a thunderous shot past the Norwich keeper striking the bar.

Wakering were forced to make changes which Norwich took full advantage of scoring 3 more times. Wakering had several good chances saved by the Norwich keeper in a tightly contested match which saw Norwich progress to the 3rd round.
